Shadow Within A City

"Tell him I'm the one assassin of malevolence----the Shadow Killer!!!"

“Tell him I’m the one assassin of malevolence—-the Shadow Killer!!!”

No more waiting, here is a segment of the story. Dr. Payne and Yosul are at odds over Yosul’s laxity type attitude with keeping himself safe from the battles with Gangland. This passage also introduce an unexpected ally..

Or foe, you decide.

Yosul’s Loft

Roughly an hour after he escaped from Ghost Squad’s lair, Yosul was back home and amongst his friends. As Sarah patched him up, she also began interrogating him and Doctor Payne. “What happened to you? What were you doing?”
“Sarah!” Doctor Payne yelled. “We’ve already been through this tonight.”
“Yes we have, Doctor,” she quickly rebutted, “but if you two intend on making it a habit to call me in the middle of night, outta nowhere to treat bullet and stab wounds that even keeps a detective from going to the hospital, then I want know what I’m getting into, and what’s going on. I think you owe me that much. So—either tell me what you’re all up to—Or find a new nurse.”
Yosul and Doctor Payne eyed each other in silent debate. Doctor Payne slightly nodded his head in consent, giving Yosul the cue to fill Sarah in. Yosul turned to her with the most firm and serious tone of voice she’d ever heard him speak with. “I’m only gonna say this once,” he begun, “so shut-up, listen, don’t interrupt, and wait till I’m done before you ask any questions.” She gave her acknowledgment. “Detective Higgins, myself, and Doctor Payne are trying to expose the city’s corruption, political unrest, and conspiracies that we believe leads up to High Mayor Brand, and possibly further. In the process,” he continued, “we tend to encounter—altercations, which, as you can see, can be physical, violent, and life threatening. That’s it.”
“What do you mean—that’s it? No! I want details!”
Yosul, in much more pain then he originally let on to, due to the constant transformations into ShadowKill, took it upon himself to put Sarah in her place. “Look!” he roared, “right now, we don’t have time for this, and frankly—I’m really not in the mood for it—okay!? Good! I don’t care what else you want to know, and it really don’t matter because—that’s all we’re saying! So—if you don’t wanna help—Fine! Leave! Trust and believe, it’ll be no problem getting someone else to look out for us! So—the choice is yours—are you in or out!?”
“I’m in,” she huffed, pouting like a small child or toddler.
“Good,” Yosul barked, “right now, the less you know, the safer you are—Understand?”
“Sure,” she said, gathering her belongings preparing to make an exit, “If there isn’t anything else, I guess I’ll be going.”
“Naw,” Yosul said in a calming tone, “Thanks for coming. Okay,” he sighed, once he was sure Sarah was out of eavesdropping range. “Doc, they know who I am.”
“Which you?”
“Both—they know I’m working with you and Higgins’, and that I’m ShadowKill.”
“Yosul, how could you expose yourself like that!?”
“What!?” he grunted with anger, “Really, Doc!? You gon’ ask me that!? Like I’m just waltzing around showin’ off, my ‘cool’, ‘special’, powers or something!? Okay,” he grunted once more, “I’ll tell you how—Maybe, because as usual, I was in there all alone—There being their damn HQ, base, or whatever-the-hell you wanna call it! Yeah, I was in there, while you were on your laptop or something—I’m always the only one puttin’ my ass on the line! Oh!” he snapped, here’s another reason—Maybe because they literally had me shackled in chains, and put a damn gun to my head! That one good enough for you!? And here’s the best one—Maybe because if I hadn’t changed into ShadowKill—I’ll be dead right now!”
“I’m sorry, Yosul.”
“Yeah, I know Doc—You’re always sorry. We’ve been through this a million times—just leave it alone, don’t even say shit else about it. They also know about Danetta—for some reason, they’re interested in her as well.”
“But why?” Doctor Payne gasped, “How did they find out about her?”
“BloodOath has footage of the parking lot brawl at the shelter the night me and her first met—It shows me changing into ShadowKill. When you called earlier tonight, he had my phone, and saw your number—I couldn’t do shit because I was still chained up, trying to regain my strength and energy—That’s why I didn’t answer the call. Its not safe for you to go home, Doc, and its no longer safe for Abram to be here. You might wanna send him out of town for a while—things are really about to heat up. They’ve probably already gotten your address from searching and cross-referencing your phone number.”
“Yes, Yosul, you’re right. So you actually spoke to BloodOath?”
“Yeah, and I did a lot more than that—I fought em’ too.”
“You fought BloodOath!?”
“Yeah, and even as ShadowKill—he’s a very capable and formidable opponent.”
“I see. With the turn of events, we must be careful, and take time planning our next course of action. We’re crippled, we’ll talk in the morning—get some rest, you need it.”
“Sure Doc,” he puffed, “but Doc—this has gotten to the point where we can no longer do it ourselves—We need help—I need help.”

what you can become,
the essence of humanity,
draped in shadows…
treasured for unknown reasoning…
savior, or villain?
Hero or not…”

Yosul garbled the words, agonizingly and softly, as his slumber almost became a burden to sustain. Sweat poured profusely down his face as he tossed and turned violently, despite a brisk night’s breeze gently cascading through the window and surfing over him, failing to ease his anxiety. His mind journeyed to another realm—another world, as his dreams momentarily became his own reality of motion and steel.
“Hear me,” murmurs a voice from the shadows. “Heed warrior, you must…”

There were missing clues to the death of Chief James Tinsworth that even the representatives of SCAF are unable to make a connection. The Alert Status remains at 2 for the time being; an odd occurrence due to the high ranking status of the former chief of Midwest City Police Department (MCPD).

He had no known family really, his wife Judy Crowns-Tinsworth died six years ago from breast cancer. His older son was killed in a car crash returning back to NAF South Section Paramilitary Base 13 in the Arizona providence. No known cause for concern over his character are noted.

James Tinsworth was shot in the head, and twice in the neck by a 9mm at close point blank range; hollow tip bullets to be exact.

“People in general are getting too nosy—too much fucking thinking…”

Now remember, this is the story that must be use in all national controlled state media; the freelance local news centers in the cities will follow suit unless their funding for “clear air time” will cease immediately.

High Mayor Brand is the sponsor for compliance for this one. Meaning, nothing will come out or even be suggested of cover up. If any mention of Ghost Squad, Lt. Periluss Simms in any type of investigation and/or inquires will be taken as a threat to Homeland security. Also if it begins to pick up steam, “neutralized it” at its progeny .

Progeny, yes I said it. A reminder to all we hold dear.

Meeting is adjourned, classified silence of Order 534. Good day.

(High level meeting of SCAF Midwest Division Office with conjunction with the Southwestern Division personnel).

Yosul’s hair and skin began to disappear, as did the solid mass and composition of his physical, human form. His body quickly became transparent, then jet-black, as he merged within the surrounding shadows in wait of the unknown aggressors fast approaching. Within seconds, his ghostly transformation was complete. His mind now traveled from minor realities into a calm spirit of thought and steel to which his heartbeat slowed down to a crawl. A fire sensation inhabited his muscles, and gravity was no longer a hindrance. He was dark energy, pure strength of comfort motion and raw iron. The young urban man of Midwest City, was now the eminent—ShadowKill.

How does ShadowKill relate to your outlook of how a super-hero should be?

or, is he too much of a anti-hero that the questions would not be valid?

If you have to describe this man in 5 words or less what would it be?

Here’s a hint, an excerpt from Shadow Within a City..

“Excuse me for actually giving a fuck,” retorted Det. Higgins, who, despite being outnumbered, had decided he wasn’t going to be disrespected much longer. “If you must know,” he snapped back, “I’m asking because I’m concerned about his health. He’s not gonna last much longer, if he don’t receive, professional medical attention, and if he has a record, than I don’t have to tell you, he can’t be admitted to a regular hospital—but I have connections, and I can help—believe it or not! So, what’s it gonna be hot-shot? You gon’ keep playin’ this tough-guy bullshit with me, or, are you gonna do what it takes to save your friend?”

What is very interesting; I and Joel “Yoel” Charles were the creators of the comic book ShadowKill but F. Kenneth Taylor was the first person to draw the first two pages of the comic (issue 1).  More interesting F. Kenneth Taylor joined the project after I wrote the first three issues and at that time I knew I needed help.  The creativity, energy, and the introduction into “attitude dialogue” was a breath of fresh air.  Together we wrote 50 scripts in all for ShadowKill.  Regrettably there is only one issue in print for ShadowKill due to the amount of work needed with the limited artists available at the time.

That of course did not stop us.  Together we started to put together some scripts, with a few revisions here and there and created “Shadow Within A City.”  This goes to show for everyone to never forget about past projects.  When the time permits itself, bring them back in full force!!

Also when a special person such as a very talented individual such as F. Kenneth Taylor wants to join your project; leave the ego at home and accept the help.  The old saying; two heads are better than one?!”

Well in this case, HELL YEAH!!  (also, we lost quite a bit of weight so don’t let that picture fool you LMAO)

Chapter Eight Into The Lair

Midwest City Police Headquarters: Lt. Simms Office

Due to the unorthodoxed, and sometimes reckless, destructive behavior and tactics of Ghost Squad, Lieutenant Simms had received an rather unpleasant scolding from Chief Jones ordering the after-hours unit to reform themselves or face dire consequences including demotions and possible terminations. He now entered the department’s Video Lab, in which he was previously en-route to prior to being summoned by Chief Jones, with Agent Wells suddenly emerging from the shadows, trailing close behind. She wore a fresh and clean uniform, sheathing the damage she acquired from being sandwiched between a brick wall and Detective Higgins’ car. “I need this room,” he sternly told a couple officers using the equipment.

“Be out cha’ way in one minute, Lieutenant,” the first officer replied.

“You’ll be out my way—Now!” Simms boomed with demanding authority.

The second officer turned to Simms. “Loo, you wanna use the lab, fine—but you’ll use it when wer’re done.”

“That’s it!” the unpredictable Simms roared as Agent Wells emerged from behind him.

“Hold on a second!” the first officer yelled, trying to calm the situation. “C’mon man,” he said to the second officer, “He’s a Lieutenant, and Ghost Squad leader,” he whispered, “Let’s

go,” he told his hot-headed partner, gently placing a hand on his shoulder. “The lab’s all yours, Lieutenant.”

Upon the officers exit, he immediately booted up the state-of-the-art video and surveillance computer and monitors. “AI-Ten, lock the door and guard it.”

“Yes Master,” the humanoid replied.

Lieutenant Simms spent the next two hours carefully reviewing the tape, but still couldn’t make anything out. Fast forward, slow-motion, rewind, pause, zoom-in, zoom-out; that was the patter he had now grew increasing tired of performing—thenfinally, he found something.

What’s this?” he uttered, “Movement in the shadows? Maybe there is something to this, Shadow Killer.” He paused the tape and enlarged the frame several times. “Damn!” he yelped, disappointed his rumored Shadow Killer had only turned out to be a blur. He returned the frame to its’ normal size and continued playing the tape.

Master, a male figure, there,” AI-10 said calmly.

Where?” Simms asked, “Show me who you’re talking about.”

“Yes Master. Rewind.” He began rewinding the tape, “Stop, there” she relayed.

Simms paused the tape again, and repeated the previous procedure. “Ahh, there is someone there. Our hero, that helped the supposed-to-be damsel in distress. That’s nothing special AI-Ten.”

Master—he appeared from the darkened portion of the parking lot.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, Master.”

A determined Simms rewound the tape again, this time further than before, then he played it forward in slow motion. After about a minute of slo-mo, he saw Yosul running from the shadows. “It appears you’re right AI-Ten. But who is he? I could use him in Gangland—I like his style of martial arts. The girl isn’t that bad either.” The sinister Periluss Simms paused the tape again, leaned back, and pondered several minutes, “I gotta find out who they are,” he said aloud. He glared at the screen several more minutes, then noticed the building and a fuzzy sign in the backdrop. “What’s this?”
